Noted Catholic and homophobe Bill Donohue is teaching us all what marriage is about. And here’s his actual quote:

“The whole purpose of marriage is to have a family. It’s not about making people happy. It’s not about love.”

In all fairness, I suppose there are married people who would agree that marriage is not about making people happy and it’s not about love. But I’d bet they didn’t go into their marriages thinking that. No, they got married because they were in love and believed being with that person would make them happy. Perhaps things didn’t work out well and they’ve discovered a lack of love and happiness… but they didn’t think that wasn’t the point of marriage when they were walking down the aisle.

Perhaps Mr. Donohue is revealing a bit more about himself that he intends to. Maybe he’s letting the world know the current state…
